Kinja backups and default rally point

With talks of GMG being sold off, hacked up, or closed down entirely, I’ve realized that I don’t really have any sort of backup for anything I’ve written on here. Sure, a lot of it is crap, but a lot of it, and the comments, are worth keeping if for nothing other than posterity . Additionally, though I’ve not been here long I really like the community, s o two questions to the Oppo hive-mind :

1) How are other people backing up their work? I’d prefer something that backed up automatically and preferably with the comments. Maybe a time lagged RSS cloner ?

2) If we all wake up one day and Oppo is 404 not found, what is the rally point? Some have suggested reddit, which I think is fair, or facebook, which I am less on board with.

1. I usually save anything I care about in a G oogle D oc. Typing there also allows me some preventative measure in the event Kinja has a moment when I’m trying to upload a post.

2. I’m 100% not down with Facebook. Reddit, Slack, or Drivetribe seem to be reasonable options to me, or, at worst, a TapTalk forum.

Also my first thought, but updates are sporadic . When I checked a few weeks ago they hadn’t updated my kinja since December ‘ 17. Certainly a good fallback.

Yeah, apart from saving individual posts I can’t think of anything else as a backup that doesn’t require root access.

I haven’t been backing anything up. But I do have some early drafts saved on my computer of articles that had a lot of work put into them. There are a handful of posts that I’m more proud of than the others, and I’d hate for them to disappear. But even the “lesser” posts have some really good conversations that I might refer back to every once in a while.

I ha ve tried to save a few posts from Kinja before, and the saved versions never really displayed properly afterwards in my browser . Especially replie s. I’m not sure if there is a good way to save those, and it’s a shame because some of the best stuff happens in the comments.
